My ex-wife was stationed at Ft. Hood before retiring this year and lives right outside of the base in Copperas Cove. She says that it is crazy out there at the moment.

Let's face it. It's the whole country that has become crazy.

Alienation, ignorance, greed, materialism, loneliness, and violence seem to be the fruit of modern America.

It fills me with despair.

I offer my prayers and sympathy for those affected by such senseless violence.

I'm afraid the inner "stereotyper" in me is suspecting that this was a long-planned event by the perpetrator. Expect another "tape" from "bin Laden" taking credit for this, but the guy almost certainly was acting solo.

Two suspects, one dead and one arrested from the latest report. Only pistols were used. Madness.

I doubt this has anything to do with alienation, ignorance, greed, materialism or loneliness. And don't blame it on "the whole country". One or two people did this and if you look at the name(s), you'll have a pretty good reason why.

I know that's not pc, but when the emperor is naked, someone might as well say it.

If pistols were used then they are most likely commissioned officers.

I have a friend in the Alabama Guard who landed at Fort Hood on Sunday. I haven't heard anything.

EDIT: I was forwarded an email he sent his wife. He's okay, but apparently knows less about what's going on than we do.

Latest news is that the shooter, though in critical condition is still alive. Who was shot 4 times was identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a 39-year-old Muslim from Virginia. The FBI has been keeping tabs on him for comments he's made about terroristic comments he's made in chatrooms, etc.

Terrorist? 12 dead & 31 wounded, I'd say they are cheering in the streets in (insert the name of any arab hell hole) tonight.

This is such a terrible tragedy. It pains me to think of what the families of the victims and even the attackers are going through tonight. When you guys hit your knees tonight send one up for all involved, i certainly will. I pray that God is with them during this very trying time for them and are entire country.

I don't know - some people consider working the same job 9-5 for 40 years doing the same thing every day is insane. It's all relative. I don't - I'm just saying that unfortunately terms like "insane" get distorted all the time.

RE: NBR: Sniper Shootings at Army's Ft. Hood (TX)
On CNN's website, they have a survelliance video from a convenience store of the shooter buying coffee yesterday morning. He is wearing a white robe and hat that muslims wear. I don't know what it is called or what its significance is. What pisses me off is Anderson Cooper in reporting on the video keeps referring to it as "traditional garb". Did the definition of traditional change. There is nothing traditional about his outfit. If he had said "traditional Muslim garb" it would have been more accurate, but I suspect it is CNN's policy to not mention the fact that the shooter was muslim and keep his religion out of it. I don't know if his motives were religiously motivated or not, but to purposely not use the word Muslim in describing his clothes and call them traditional is both stupid and infuriating. Had this been a rightwing religious nut bombing an abortion clinic, do you think CNN would exercise the same restraint in keeping the bombers religious views out of the story. No they would be all over it.

I usually don't go off on the media as being one sided or the other because I think they are all ridiculous, but that pissed me off.

Oh my apologies - I'm educated enough to have made the connection that it's ironic that the guy graduated from the very school that produced the worst mass shooting/suicide in American history.

A chuckle at irony isn't finding comedy. You are reaching.

In my opinion, they both will rot your brain. Actual television news died several years ago (sometime around the OJ trial)

Death is senseless, but what is worse is dying at the hands of a "brother in arms" on our own soil at a US Army Post. This guy, regardless of his religious affiliation, ethnicity, race, or cultural background is murdering coward.
