Lotta people aren't getting Hooten's..mainly in disgust over last year's comments about UA.

I saw one interesting thing though...Springdale is the pre-season #1 in AAAAA. That should make the Springdale-Jenks game a little more exciting.

Jenks will still beat the crap out of Springdale. Jenks is simply a much better program than Springdale.

That stuff in Hootens about them wanting to be a national level program is a waste of time until they actually win something in state.

Since were on the subject of High School football, I'd like to hear everyones predictions on who will win the state titles. I say:
5A: FS Southside
4A: Alma
3A: Osceola
2A: Havent decided

OK...I see it as...

5A) Russellville - Leach is still the QB and Cyclones now have a taste of playoff action. My pick also to win the 5A West.

4A) Alma - Frank Vines should once again re-claim his throne here. Watch out for Stuttgart though, they're my sleeper pick.

3A) Undecided for now..but always wary of Booneville and Warren.

2A) Harding Academy - it's time for the OTHER big passing team in 2A (after Shiloh's departure) to take over 2A. Dark horse - Junction City.

Hooten's Football goes retro for newest issue
BY TIM COOPER -ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE
Like Arkansas' projected starting quarterback, this year's cover of Hooten's Arkansas Football is a throwback.

The Razorbacks' Matt Jones appears on this year's front -- in black-and-white.

"We did our tribute to high school football last year, so we thought we needed to get back to the Hogs this year," co-publisher Chris Hooten said. "Of course the rock star was going to be Matt Jones and everybody was going to have him on their cover. We just wanted to be different than everybody else."

Jones, who as a freshman last season averaged 8 yards per carry while appearing in eight games, graces this year's cover in a 1950s-style uniform and haircut.

"Matt has always reminded us of a Galloping Ghost," Hooten said. "He's bigger than Red Grange, but just the way he runs reminds you of a throwback type of guy. He looks like [former Razorback] Lamar McHan from the early '50s. He was a Single Wing tailback who could either run or throw. You can just see Matt Jones doing that."

The 448-page magazine, the largest in the 10-year history of the publication, has the Razorbacks picked to finish third in the SEC Western Division. LSU is picked to win the West, while Tennessee is the favorite to win the East. Oklahoma is the Hooten's preseason No. 1.

The magazine's favorites for the high school classifications are Springdale in Class AAAAA, Stuttgart in AAAA, Warren in AAA and Harding Academy in AA.

The magazine can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Kroger, Hastings, Harvest Foods, Big Red Fina, Books-A-Million, Harps, Price Cutter, Waldenbooks and PDQ Convenience Stores.
